The Bill Lawrence "Tempered" Pole Piece Spacing
One of the major problems with pickups has been pole piece spacings that didn't line up well with the strings. With all the different size bridges used today, it would take too many different spacings to accomodate every guitar on the market. Becky and I attempted to provide this service for almost a year now until we were overwhelmed with phone calls and measurement errors that required still more phone calls to remedy! To solve the problem, I completed a series of calculations to determine a set of three spacings that would be vitually universal for the widest variety of guitars. The result is "The Bill Lawrence Tempered Pole Piece Spacing" -- a replacement set that can accomodate most guitars at a maximum .020" off center. This is less than half the diameter of the low E string, virtually undetectable.
