Brief History about
the L-500 pickups
In the late
1970s, Bill Lawrence designed the famous L-500.
The L-500
has become a true classic, popular with a wide variety of guitarists
playing all sorts of musical styles ranging from traditional jazz, blues,
and country to hard-driving, high-volume hard rock and heavy metal.
More importantly,
the L-500 recently became the very first aftermarket pickup design to
be reverse-engineered by a major aftermarket maker!
Today, players
can choose from four available options personally fine-tuned by Bill:
the L-500C, the L-500R, the L-500L and the L-500XL.
The question is: "WHAT IS AN ORIGINAL L-500?"
An
important design factor of Bill's original L-500 pickups can easily
be determined by the look alone -- the chrome-plated plastic housing.
